As an official hoodie aficionado, I feel qualified to decide which hoodies are the best for which women. So here’s my verdict.
The best hoodies for street style are, in my opinion, the Superdry women’s hoodies (especially those from Rab Clothing). These come in a wide range of colours and styles, with different designs on the front. There is the classic Superdry logo and different versions of this as well as slogans such as ‘Superdry Japan.’ The reason I like them the best is because of their beaten up, vintage look. Many other hoodie designers have tried to imitate this, but not half as successfully.
In fact, most ‘fake old’ hoodies I’ve seen I absolutely hate. The cheap high street version just looks tacky, in my opinion, especially since designers seem to be forever producing them in the most lurid lime green and fluorescent pink colours. When are they going to learn that girls just don’t always want to wear ‘girly’ colours. Women’s Superdry hoodies come in a great variety of attractive colours and are quite similar to their male counterpart, which I like. It upsets me when I really like some of the designs for men’s hoodies and the girl’s versions only come in hideous pink.
Anyway, other than Superdry hoodies, another good option is genuine vintage Adidas and Nike hoodies. These have a sort of perennial cool that will never go out of fashion, and are genuinely aged instead of just being made to look aged. The other great thing about them is that they can be found in charity shops all over the country for very low prices, or on Ebay. However, the fact that they actually are vintage can often be a drawback as they can be threadbare and can fall apart very quickly.
For a more functional hoodie, I would choose the Rab Boulder Hoodie. This hoodie is designed for outdoor pursuits and is made from Polartec® Thermal Pro® Hi-Loft fabric, which will really protect you from the elements. While the street style hoodies I was discussing are basically sweatshirts, this hoodie is almost more like a jacket. The sweatshirt type hoodie will obviously provide no protection at all from the weather. Its hood is, of course, not actually waterproof.
The feature I love most about the Rab Boulder Hoodie is the way its zip comes up to over the chin, to protect your face from the wind and rain, and also to ensure that the hood stays up. It’s made of really cosy material and is just perfect for a winter’s day on the beach.
If I had to choose one out of all the hoodies I love, I’d have to make it the Rab Boulder Hoodie. Generally, I do go for comfort and function over style, but this hoodie actually looks really cool too. While the others are just cool sweatshirts to wear around the house, this is the sort of item that suggests exciting pursuits like windsurfing and mountain climbing. I love being a girl of action, so this is definitely my hoodie of choice.
